Sitting in ceremony with our sisters was once as common as checking our social media is today. Ceremony was used for everything between life and death — to address conflicts, behavior issues, personal struggles, war, healing and financial needs. Recognizing the role of ceremony in our spiritual wellness is crucial in addressing our overall health and personal growth. Ceremonies were suppressed, taken away or erased by colonization and the patriarchy. Indigenous people have suffered, medicine women have faced persecution and influential spiritual women like Mary Magdalene have been misrepresented. Society has consistently attempted to disconnect us from the empowering essence of ceremonies.
