Our 9th Annual Oscar Party
March 08th 2010

Oscar Party
We held our NINTH annual Oscar party this year!  Yes, that means I have never been to the Oscars.  Yes, I do hope to change that eventually.  smile

BUT in the meantime, we really love hosting this little party!  It’s a great way to get together & celebrate the ‘Superbowl’ of Hollywood.  Yes, this is our Superbowl- complete with betting, high drama, & crying/screaming.  Awesome.  For the decor this year I took my inspiration from Avatar, & bought ‘jungle’ plants (palm fronds & bamboo leaves & bright orange lilies) from the downtown LA Flower Mart, and put them in nearly every available corner of the house.  We had bright blue ‘Navi Punch’—if you’d like to recreate it yourselves, use a combination of blue curacao, key lime juice, Grey Goose vodka, pineapple juice & ginger ale.  Delicious.  For food, we had lots of fresh veggies, banana bread, chocolate, & amaaaazing empanadas from Empanada’s Place over on Vine.  (Not sure how that fits in with the theme, but it was all yummy.)

Enjoy this little slice of our night!

The ‘A’ Team:  with my friends Alyssa & Ashley

Watching the results…  (you can see some of my “Avatar” decorating theme happening in the background…)

The ‘J’ Team: Jenn Wong, Josh Covitt & his girlfriend Jessi are on pins & needles about the Best Short Animated Film category…  or something.

Party guests enjoying themselves…  (check out the blue globe lights in the background- sweet!)

Jess & I in front of our yearly creation—the Oscar Board!!  Jess keeps track of everyone’s votes & the winners in each category.  We use a weighted point system.  In fact, I would have WON this year if I had only picked ‘Hurt Locker’ for best picture!  I think my decorating scheme unduly influenced my choice (Avatar)...  Grrrr…

Lovely pictures - it looks like you all had fun, and the food sounds delicious, too! I love empanadas. P.S. Your section on what you’re currently reading/watching/listening to is my favorite - I think I’ll definitely try to read “Brilliant Traces” soon!
